![]() ![]() It's still is one of the best control schemes in the genre (although Archetype was also remarkably well done, too), and Gameloft includes the opportunity to customize it to your liking. If you have played any of Gameloft's previous shooters, you will feel right at home with the basic virtual stick and buttons/drag-to-look scheme. Control is king in the first-person shooter scene, and Gameloft excels here. ![]() Turret breaks where you jump behind a cannon and lay to waste wave after wave of enemies? Check. Quick-time reaction events? They're here. However, there is quite a bit of predictability along the way. Every single mission in Modern Combat 2 offers a fresh situation (within the context of the game, I mean – there are not exactly any new ideas here), and that's what keeps you going forward. ![]() It's the scenarios that truly count, such as trying to stop an RPG gunner from destroying a convoy or stealthily creeping through snow pack to snipe unsuspecting terrorists. Your hero trots the globe, from the humid jungles of South America to the frigid forests of former Soviet bloc states. Here, you are a trooper busted out of captivity by a fellow soldier, soon to be thrust into the heart of a major campaign in the War on Terror. Plot matters little, but I will give Modern Combat 2 this: it's certainly a lot more believable than Infinity Ward's last yarn. ![]()
